Guideline’s on the Use of SDS Funds in Supported Self-Employment Ventures
Print Guidline's (pdf)
SDS funds (including MA waiver/CIP dollars) are to be used for the provision of services to eligible individuals. In the area of vocational services, this would typically include funding for assessment, placement, training, and job coaching. In the area of self-employment, SDS funds cannot be used to purchase supplies for a business or to pay for outside services provided directly to the business (e.g. marketing). For example, a consumer who has a pottery business can use SDS dollars to pay for a job coach who assists with pottery production. But, SDS dollars should not be used e.g. to pay for a marketer to promote the pottery to area stores (without the consumer’s participation), to purchase business cards, to cover equipment rental fees, or to pay fees charged for a booth at an art fair, etc. These kinds of expenses should be covered by the personal funds of the business owner or by revenues generated by the business.
